“Last week was a long and momentous one in the presidency of Barack Obama. On Monday, he began a bombing campaign with members of an international coalition against ISIS and other terrorist targets in Syria, while continuing airstrikes in northern Iraq. On Wednesday, he addressed the United Nations and laid out his case in the strongest terms for international action against Muslim extremists. By Thursday, his anti-ISIS coalition had grown to more than 60 members, ranging from the Saudis, Jordanians, Emiratis and Europeans who flew missions, to the Irish and Swedes who wrote checks, to the Bulgarians and Egyptians who wished us well.
On Friday, he was back in the White House where he met us in the Diplomatic Reception Room for a conversation that ranged from terror networks to the American economy.” To continue click on the 60 Minutes interview below.

But Holder’s timing was perfect, given the chance that Republicans could take over the Senate after the November election. By leaving now, confirmation hearings are certain to be held under a Senate that is still controlled by Democrats.
Had he waited, Obama could have had much more difficulty confirming Holder’s successor, the former official said.
“You didn’t want confirmation hearings in 2015 if the Republicans control the Senate,” the official said. “So if he didn’t do it now, there was no way he could ever do it.”
Holder told Obama his resignation plans over the Labor Day holidays, reports Politico, and Obama did not push back, although he faces a long confirmation battle to replace Holder.
This way, Obama has time to pick and vet Holder’s successor and push him through during the post-election, lame-duck session after the midterm elections.
Holder, the nation’s first African-American attorney general, is also leaving office on a high point after his trip to Ferguson, Mo., during the riots following the shooting death of an unarmed teenager.
But while the trip was well-received, Holder has been a polarizing figure politically, including being the first sitting Cabinet member to be found in contempt of Congress.
And Republicans are not sorry to see him go.
“I welcome the news that Eric Holder will step down as Attorney General,” said House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte, in an email to Politico. “From Operation Fast and Furious to his misleading testimony before the House Judiciary Committee regarding the Department’s dealings with members of the media and his refusal to appoint a special counsel to investigate the IRS’ targeting of conservative groups, Mr. Holder has consistently played partisan politics with many of the important issues facing the Justice Department.”
But Holder will leave a hole in the Obama administration, particularly when it comes to race relations, as the outgoing attorney general often said things that Obama would not say.
“He’s a race man,” said Charles Ogletree, a longtime friend of Holder’s and mentor to Obama and his wife, Michelle, when they were Harvard Law students back in the 1980s.
“He’s gone farther and deeper into some issues of race than the White House would like, but I know he has the president’s well-wishes,” said Ogletree. “It’s clear [Obama and Holder] believe in the same things.”
Holder has also become a close friend of Obama, even to the point of vacationing with the president and his family on Martha’s Vineyard. Their wives are also close friends.
Meanwhile, a top Justice Department official said Holder has no immediate plans for his retirement, but he does want to remain involved to some of the causes he embraced while in office, including working to “restore trust between law enforcement and minority communities.”
There are several names that may come under consideration to replace Holder, including Solicitor General Donald Verrilli, Jr., California Attorney General Kamala Harris, and even Obama’s first first-term choice, Janet Napolitano.

“The story was told in a way that shows Detroit is coming back, but that it’s also a city that is doing it from the ground up,” says Devita. “It’s an initiative accomplished through community capital. It’s grassroots.”
In that spirit, Detroit Kitchen Connect will be using some of the money to help community partner Saints Peter and Paul Orthodox Cathedral in southwest Detroit. The church is in desparate need of infrastructure repairs after experiencing two to three feet of flooding during one of this summer’s heavy rainfalls. They plan on buying a better mixer for their bakers, too, along with a new oven. A local food entrepreneur scholarship program will also receive a boost. (inspiring video above)

In order to remain competitive in today’s market, successful companies need:
The practice of meditation helps to make all of this possible. The Harvard Business School along with INSEAD—Europe’s leading business school—have concluded from their research that the two most effective business tools for twenty-first century executives are meditation and intuition. The benefits of meditation in the workplace are cumulative; they build on one another, starting with the individual and from there, positively impacting the performance of the business as a whole.
The success of any business begins with the individual because innovation and inspiration are born at the individual level. The potential for greatness is inside each person that realizes there are infinite possibilities all around them, and that their creativity is limitless. Unfortunately, most individuals find that their potential is seriously limited by stress, which can:
Meditation has been around for thousands of years, and has survived all this time because it works. My passion for bringing meditation to the workplace stems from the time I spent in the workplace and suffered the negative effects of stress almost every day of my working life. Not only was I unproductive and difficult to work with, I also felt tired and irritable most the time. I was sick quite often, and whatever creativity I possessed was nowhere to be found. There was no clarity or peace in my personal life, which led to none in my working life.
Today, I consider myself a ‘stress survivor,’ thanks to my meditation practice. As living proof, I know meditation can benefit any individual or business in limitless ways. Here are the top five benefits I feel meditation brings to the business world:
Every time we encounter an obstacle to fulfilling our goals, we face stress. It’s been documented that most people find themselves facing a “fight or flight” decision an average of 12 times each day. The state of “fight or flight” is an acute stress response that can adversely affect digestion, heart rate, respiratory rate, and the general effectiveness of the immune system. If employees are busy simply trying to survive, their minds will become hazy in all that they do.
It’s no secret that human beings only operate at about five percent of their mental capacity, and it sometimes seems as if we are comfortable with that limitation. Clarity and the ability to focus on goals are crucial to the success of any business. Both of these are a byproduct of the inner calm and peace that meditation brings.
A company that offers meditation as part of an employee wellness program shows they care about its employees and will gain the loyalty of workers at every level, which will result in less personnel turnover and increased employee retention. Loyal employees will be less likely to test the job market, and will generally remain with a company for a longer period of time. Loyal employees will also tend to feel that the success of the company they work for is directly related to their own success, and therefore work harder to achieve the company’s goals.
A clear mind will express clear thoughts. Clear, effective communication between managers and employees is crucial to the smooth running of any business operation. Unfortunately, effective communication at all levels is an area in which many businesses need improvement. Clear communication is a result of the clarity and focus that meditation brings to the workplace.
In today’s fast-paced business world, there is no way to avoid stress. However, meditation allows the individual to effectively deal with stress, which helps to improve their overall health, reducing their risk of heart disease, stroke, clinical depression, and a myriad of other conditions that cause employee absenteeism.
The practice of meditation will help to improve the general productivity in companies of any size or industry. By helping employees at all levels deal with their stress effectively; focus more clearly on their own goals and the goals of the company; and communicate clearly with the other members of their team; the productivity of the employee will improve. And when productivity improves at the individual level, overall productivity of the company improves, too … which leads to increased profits and a healthier bottom line.
Whether a company employs 25 people or 25,000, it can reap huge benefits from providing meditation instruction to its workers as part of their employee development program.
