Marcus Samuelsson’s Swedish Princess Cake

Released October 2016
Southern comfort food and multicultural recipes from the New York Times best-selling superstar chef Marcus Samuelsson’s iconic Harlem restaurant.

When the James Beard Award-winning chef Marcus Samuelsson opened Red Rooster on Malcolm X Boulevard in Harlem, he envisioned more than a restaurant. It would be the heart of his neighborhood and a meet-and-greet for both the downtown and the uptown sets, serving Southern black and cross-cultural food. It would reflect Harlem’s history. Ever since the 1930s, Harlem has been a magnet for more than a million African Americans, a melting pot for Spanish, African, and Caribbean immigrants, and a mecca for artists.

 –

These traditions converge on Rooster’s menu, with Brown Butter Biscuits, Chicken and Waffle, Killer Collards, and Donuts with Sweet Potato Cream. They’re joined by global-influenced dishes such as Jerk Bacon and Baked Beans, Latino Pork and Plantains, and Chinese Steamed Bass and Fiery Noodles. Samuelsson’s Swedish-Ethiopian background shows in Ethiopian Spice-Crusted Lamb, Slow-Baked Blueberry Bread with Spiced Maple Syrup, and the Green Viking, sprightly Apple Sorbet with Caramel Sauce.

–

Interspersed with lyrical essays that convey the flavor of the place and stunning archival and contemporary photos, The Red Rooster Cookbook is as layered as its inheritance.

Hanukkah
Saturday, December 24, 2016 – Sunday, January 1, 2017

Hanukkah (/ˈhɑːnəkə/ hah-nə-kə; Hebrew: חֲנֻכָּה‎ khanuká, Tiberian: khanuká, usually spelled חנוכה, pronounced [χanuˈka] in Modern Hebrew, [ˈχanukə] or [ˈχanikə] in Yiddish; a transliteration also romanized as Chanukah or Ḥanukah) is a Jewish holiday commemorating the rededication of the Holy Temple (the Second Temple) in Jerusalem at the time of the Maccabean Revolt against the Seleucid Empire.

Hanukkah is observed for eight nights and days, starting on the 25th day of Kislev according to the Hebrew calendar, which may occur at any time from late November to late December in the Gregorian calendar. It is also known as the Festival of Lights and the Feast of Dedication.

The festival is observed by the kindling of the lights of a unique candelabrum, the nine-branched menorah (also called a Chanukiah/Hanukiah), one additional light on each night of the holiday, progressing to eight on the final night. The typical menorah consists of eight branches with an additional visually distinct branch. The extra light, with which the others are lit, is called a shamash (Hebrew: שמש‎‎, “attendant”) and is given a distinct location, usually above or below the rest.

Other Hanukkah festivities include playing dreidel and eating oil-based foods such as doughnuts and latkes. Since the 1970s, the worldwide Chabad Hasidic movement has initiated public menorah lightings in open public places in many countries.

Christmas Tree fashioned into a festive dress
Christmas Day
Sunday, December 25, 2016
Christmas Day is a holiday in many, but not all, countries. Many homes have Christmas trees and other decorations in the weeks leading to Christmas Day. Some workplaces hold Christmas parties prior to December 25. Festive activities include exchanging presents, singing Christmas songs, going to parties.

It’s a special time when children get presents from family, friends and Santa Claus, or Father Christmas. Christmas cards are also given or sent out prior to Christmas Day.

For some, Christmas is an exclusive family affair, while others invite friends to a Christmas buffet or pot luck meal. Churches have special services and may include a crèche or miniature Nativity scene.

Kwanzaa
Monday, December 26, 2016 – Sunday, January 1, 2017
Kwanzaa (/ˈkwɑːn.zə/) is a week-long celebration held in the United States and in other nations of the Western African diaspora in the Americas. The celebration honors African heritage in African-American culture, and is observed from December 26 to January 1, culminating in a feast and gift-giving. Kwanzaa has seven core principles (Nguzo Saba). It was created by Maulana Karenga and was first celebrated in 1966–67.

Greetings!,

Happy Authentic Tuesday!

Happy Thanksgiving! I hope you thoroughly enjoy Thanksgiving Day as well as the entire holiday season.
 –
As we enter the season, I’m reminded of the meaning behind Thanksgiving. It’s as simple as giving thanks. Being thankful is a state of mind. All kinds of things could be happening around us yet we can still be thankful.
 –
While many people protest the recent election and are fearful of what the next four years may bring, I am thankful to have been born in a country where I can vote and freely voice my opinion by the words I speak and the things I do.
Even though I have had challenges as an entrepreneur, especially in financial areas from time to time, I am thankful that I have the choice of being an entrepreneur as a viable way to express myself and follow my spirit.
Some countries denounce religious freedom and require residents to follow only one rule of order. I am thankful that I live in a country where I can follow my spirit and believe as I choose.
Even though I have had multiple health problems since I was eight years old, I am thankful to have lived as long as I have with the health and energy I enjoy.
And in spite of not having any close family members nearby, I am thankful for my expansive extended family and the deep relationships I have developed.
Most of us have stories that we are constantly overcoming. It’s a part of being human on this planet. We have a choice of being scarred from our experiences or finding lessons and the joy that comes from the lessons.
On this Thanksgiving and throughout the holiday season I hope you will adapt an attitude of gratitude. As you practice such gratitude over the next six weeks or so, I hope that it becomes such a habit that you adopt an attitude of gratitude as a way of life.
The more gratitude you express, the more you will impact your world to be more thankful and express attitudes that lead to joy. Joy leads to authenticity. What a wonderful way to claim it!
HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
Love and Authenticity,
Norma

Howard Stern Addresses Trump Tapes, Endorses Hillary Clinton & Why FBI Director James Comey did the wrong thing … again

Hello Everyone!
–
Today marks the 10th day before the election.
–
October Surprises for both Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton.  Thirteen women to date have come forward to tell their story about Donald Trump sexually assaulting them.  James Comey is inserting a questionable assertion that Hillary Clinton’s email investigation is being reviewed after closing the case in July 2016.
–
Howard Stern did not release his shows tapes with Donald Trump–other people did.  My question is why didn’t the other 16 GOP candidates do their research on Donald a year ago?
–
After reading the article below on James Comey; you may also come to the conclusion that he is impersonating the characters I made reference to.
