Marcus Samuelsson’s Swedish Princess Cake

Released October 2016
Southern comfort food and multicultural recipes from the New York Times best-selling superstar chef Marcus Samuelsson’s iconic Harlem restaurant.

When the James Beard Award-winning chef Marcus Samuelsson opened Red Rooster on Malcolm X Boulevard in Harlem, he envisioned more than a restaurant. It would be the heart of his neighborhood and a meet-and-greet for both the downtown and the uptown sets, serving Southern black and cross-cultural food. It would reflect Harlem’s history. Ever since the 1930s, Harlem has been a magnet for more than a million African Americans, a melting pot for Spanish, African, and Caribbean immigrants, and a mecca for artists.

 –

These traditions converge on Rooster’s menu, with Brown Butter Biscuits, Chicken and Waffle, Killer Collards, and Donuts with Sweet Potato Cream. They’re joined by global-influenced dishes such as Jerk Bacon and Baked Beans, Latino Pork and Plantains, and Chinese Steamed Bass and Fiery Noodles. Samuelsson’s Swedish-Ethiopian background shows in Ethiopian Spice-Crusted Lamb, Slow-Baked Blueberry Bread with Spiced Maple Syrup, and the Green Viking, sprightly Apple Sorbet with Caramel Sauce.

–

Interspersed with lyrical essays that convey the flavor of the place and stunning archival and contemporary photos, The Red Rooster Cookbook is as layered as its inheritance.

Hello Everyone:

The White House Council on Women and Girls hosted the United State of Women Summit on June 14, 2016 , which brought together more than 5,000 people at the Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C., to discuss issues important to women — from equal pay and reproductive health to economic independence and civic duty.

Among the speakers: Billie Jean King, Jen Welter, Kerry Washington, Amy Poehler, Patricia Arquette, Connie Britton,  Cecile Richards, president, Planned Parenthood, Vice PresidentBiden and President Obama.

(Oh‚ and Oprah Winfrey and Michelle Obama had a little girl talk center stage aboutMichelle’s time in the White House.)

This discussion is one of the best.

The president may be a little grayer than he was eight years ago, but he’s what a feminist looks like. (NCM Blog post below)

That’s what President Obama said in his State of Women address, in which Obama quotedAudre Lorde in describing how women should be: “Deliberate and afraid of nothing.” The president also highlighted the accomplishments of American women. “Our country is not all about the Benjamins,” Obama said. It’s about the Tubmans, too!”

Having found a rhythm and getting tremendous feedback from his audience, Obama pressed on:“Rosa Parks wasn’t a seamstress who sat down by accident. She was a civil rights leader!”

Once again, Obama threw his support behind presumptive Democratic presidential nomineeHillary Clinton, which also drew enormous cheers, and said he’s not ready to become a lame-duck president until after the country has elected a suitable successor.

Article is from 2 years ago; however, the basic information is unchanged even with the typical “Ups and Downs” and BREXIT’S dramatic shift at this time.
After employment data for June showed Barack Obama besting Bill Clinton’s record on sustained private sector job creation and June’s employment numbers crushing estimates, the DOW rallied to a historical high of over 17,000. To put it in perspective, the day Barack Obama took office in the midst of the greatest recession in (most of) living memory, the DOW lost over 330 points and closed at 7,949.

¡Hola a todos!
(Hello Everyone!)

In Buenos Aires, the President and First Family will meet with the newArgentine President, Mauricio Macri, to discuss President Macri’s reform agenda and recognize his contributions to the defense of human rights in the region.  The President will deepen efforts to increase cooperation between our governments in a range of areas, including trade and investment, renewable energy and climate change, and citizen security.  It has been nearly two decades since the last bilaterally focused visit by a U.S. President to Argentina, Latin America’s third largest country.

Tango is a dance that has influences from European and African culture.  Dances from the candombe ceremonies of former slave peoples helped shape the modern day Tango. The dance originated in lower-class districts of Buenos Aires and Montevideo.
The music derived from the fusion of various forms of music from Europe.  The word “tango” seems to have first been used in connection with the dance in the 1880s, possibly related to the Latin word “tangere” but more likely related to the African slave word “tango” (drum or dance place).
