More ways you can help with the Syrian Refugees Crisis

Hello Everyone:
This is an update on the Syrian refugees crisis.  More information including a video is available within by clicking on the link inside the body of the White House e-mail.
Whatever you can do regardless of how small will make a big difference in their lives.

Salma, who is aged at least 90, wears an old ring that she was given by her dying mother when she was just 10 years old. Salma says her mother told her, “Keep this ring and remember me.’ She intends to wear the ring to her grave. ‘It’s not valuable – not silver or gold – just an old ring. But it’s all that I have left.’

THE WHITE HOUSE
More ways you can help this #GivingTuesday:As Americans, we do what we can to help the most vulnerable in our communities and around the world.

That’s why, in addition to the $4.5 billion our government has given to assist those affected by the Syrian crisis, we’re working across the board to find more ways to support Syrians in need both abroad and here in the U.S.

There’s much more work to do, and Americans across the country are stepping up to do what they can to help Syrians and other refugees in need.

Join them — enter your location into this map to find volunteer opportunities at organizations that are helping refugees start fresh in your community.

Map of Refugee Assistance Organizations

Businesses and foundations are also engaged in this effort. Kickstarter launched its first-ever non-profit campaign dedicated to humanitarian aid. Airbnb offered free housing credits to aid workers in the region, Twitter created a feature to allow donations to non-governmental organizations via tweets, and Instacart gave their customers the option of buying food for refugee families. Through InterAction’s Hope for Syria fund, nine aid organizations will provide additional lifesaving relief and support to Syrian refugees rebuilding their shattered lives.

#GivingTuesday is a movement that shows the impact we can have when we all pull together. And this holiday season, it’s an opportunity to recommit to our country’s proud tradition of providing support to the most vulnerable — and to challenge ourselves to continue being as generous as we can in meeting their needs.

As the President said, to slam the door in refugees’ faces, to decide not to help when we know that we can help, would be a betrayal of our values.

Take a minute to see if there are ways you can devote your skills and energy to help refugees in need in your area:

Cyber Monday (Home Alone) vs. Cyber Shopping Socials – Which one suits you?

Hello Everyone:
–
Cyber Monday (Home Alone) is November 30th and allows one to shop from the comforts their warm home or during their breaks at their workplace.
–
Note:  You can now shop on-line for door busters starting as early as Thanksgiving Day morning  midnight tonight at some of the big box retailers for their deep discounts–all from the comfort of your home vs. standing in a dark parking lot wet and shivering prior to the doors opening on Black Friday.
–
See NCM Blog below “This Comedienne’s Black Friday experience will leave you laughing”.

By now people are aware of what to look for regarding on-line security. When in doubt, use your Pay Pal account or a prepaid card that you have transferred money onto for the purpose of shopping on-line.

Guests can bring their own notebooks and tablets.  If you like having food and beverages make something simple like chili in a crock pot or spread out some deli meats breads and cheeses for your guests to make their own sandwiches.  Paper plates and disposal utensils will make clean-up a breeze.
The host may prefer to have cookies and hot chocolate instead.  For those that like to bake there’s a recipe for Gingerbread cookies in the White House Christmas Tour Book 2014.  (see PDF file attachment below)

Put on some holiday music and your Cyber shopping socials eliminates the negative elements of Black Friday and that home alone feeling of Cyber Monday. Instead Cyber shopping socials shines a light on the positive elements of Small Business Saturday mingling and sharing with people.
