Feeling Playful?

Brene’ Brown, researcher and author said she was so removed from play that she didn’t recognize it as a part of being a wholehearted person even though all her research pointed towards it.
–
Dr. Brene’ Brown (no relation) came across Dr. Staurt Brown’s research on Play (cover below) and in Brene’s book The Gifts of Imperfection:   Let Go of Who You Think You Are Suppose to Be and Embrace Who You Are.  In Brene’s book; Guidepost 7:  “Cultivating Play and Rest”. (Brene’s quote above)

-

We’ve all seen the happiness on the face of a child while playing in the school yard. Or the blissful abandon of a golden retriever racing across a lawn. This is the joy of play. By definition, play is purposeless, all-consuming, and fun.
–
But as Dr. Stuart Brown illustrates, play is anything but trivial. It is a biological drive as integral to our health as sleep or nutrition. We are designed by nature to flourish through play.

Day 5 — Feeling Playful

Today’s meditation connects us to the playful nature of our joyful self. Vedic wisdom tells us that all creation arises from Lila, or cosmic play. Expressing our playful nature is a valuable way to stay creative, receptive, and revitalized. When we have fun, we are dancing and singing along with the story of our life. We find our hearts, minds and bodies are lighter and happier. Play time not only makes us feel better, it spiritually rejuvenates us as well.

Our meditation today brings our awareness to this source of playfulness deep within, allowing us to bring this sense of fun and joy into our daily life. Let the child in you go out and play.

Our centering thought for today is:

I am playful
