On Board with President Obama in the Philippines
President Barack Obama arrived in the Philippines to meet the President Benigno Aquino III,  It’s interesting to note that like South Korean President Park Geun-hye, President Aquino III is single and never married.
Both come from political families and had a parent assassinated.  President Geun-hye’s father and mother and President Aquino III’s father Benigno Aquino, Jr. whom he is named after.
The people power revolution in the events leading up to President Corazon Aquino’s being sworn in as president in 1986 was the most eventful political election  prior to President Barack Obama being sworn in as president in 2009.

More than six decades after President Eisenhower’s trip, and more than a decade after the last presidential visit—President Obama returned to the Philippines, in a sign of how the U.S. now finds itself once again in a contest for leadership and influence in Asia. President Obama’s two-day visit is as much about symbolism as strategy.
The two sides agreed on a ten-year pact that will allow the U.S. to pre-position fighter jets and ships; it’s not yet clear what level of force and equipment the U.S. will rotate through the Philippines, though it won’t be a return to the levels once hosted at the sprawling Subic Bay Naval Station

The first woman o hold the office of president in the Philippines, and the first woman president in Asia; President Corazon Aquino is regarded as the “Icon of Philippine Democracy”
President Aquino was the most prominent figure of the 1986 People Power Revolution, which toppled the 21-year authoritarian rule of President Ferdinand Marcos and restored democracy to the Philippines.
She was named Time magazine’s “Woman of the Year” in 1986. She is the first President without any political experience as she had not held any other elective office.
The fete, hosted by Philippines President Benigno Aquino, was a sweet
ending for a week-long foreign swing, that included Obama’s induction
into the Order of Sikatuna, a Filipino diplomatic honor that has been
bestowed on U.S. presidents dating back to Dwight D. Eisenhower.
