There were 200 invited guests including Oprah Winfrey, Robert De Niro, Glenn Close, Harrison Ford, Calista Flockhart, Quincy Jones and his daughter Rashida.
The bride wore a wedding gown by Peter Soronen and carried brightly coloured roses as her ‘something blue’. Former New Jersey senator Bill Bradley walked her down aisle, Francis Ford Coppola did a reading and journalist Bill Moyersalso a Baptist minister; officiated the ceremony.
Another Hollywood heavyweight, filmmaker and producer Steven Spielberg, is said to have given a toast, with a source revealing: ‘He joked that the Force finally had a name: Mellody!’
The Star Wars supremo was previously married to film editor Marcia Lucas from 1969 until their divorce in 1983. He has three adopted children son, Jett, was George’s best man, while his daughters, Katie and Amanda, served as bridesmaids. George’s bio below.
Director Ron Howard was also among the guests and later congratulated the happy couple via Twitter. ‘George Lucas Melody Hobson wedding was joy to behold,’ he wrote. ‘Bill Moyers service was beautiful, nothing short of profound. Congrats Mr&Mrs Lucas.’
Samuel L Jackson, who played Jedi Mace Windu in Star Wars prequels The Phantom Menace, Attack Of The Clones and Revenge Of The Sith, also tweeted his best wishes. ‘Let’s give a Galactic shout out to Master George Lucas & his bride Mellody on this, their wedding day,’ he wrote.
The reception included entertainment by Janelle Monae and Van Morrison.
Second celebration reception held in Chicago
The couple held another reception a week later in Chicago (Mellody’s home town). Among those on the guest list were former Mayor Richard Daley, gubernatorial candidate Bill Daley, the Reverend Jesse Jackson, Mark Hamill who played Luke Skywalker in the original Star Wars, Grammy award-winning singer Ne-Yo and JP Morgan CEO Jamie Dimon.
Prince with a 22 piece band was the featured entertainment for this outdoor celebration in Chicago’s Hyde Park. The Lucas paid for the additional city costs.
Lucas will have plenty of time to spend with his new wife. He sold his Lucasfilm production company to Disney in October 2012 for $4.05 billion – most of which he donated to educational philanthropy.
