First Lady Michelle Obama chose a dramatic Carolina Herrera ball gown with a voluminous skirt and lace overlay top.  The gown includes a black hand-sewn beaded embroidery applique scallop-edged top over a liberty blue silk faille corset.  A wide black velvet bets breaks up the top from the silk faille inverted pleat skirt.

Gold cutlery and cloth napkins embroidered with an eagle are part of the place settings

The Winter Garden Salad  in mini-terrarium was the second course .
The winter vegetables are from the White House Kitchen Garden.

The White House floristwho studied floral artistry in Paris, created French-inspired bouquets that are meant to evoke the feeling of a painting by Monet, the French impressionist.

The “deconstructed” arrangements — that means the flowers and greenery are not all in one vase but are in separate vessels — were made using quince branches, acacia leaves, white and purple iris flowers & bambo
