Abraham Lincoln’s life story is a prime example of someone who “never gave up”.  While Lincoln had many successes in between; the following list of failures and/or setbacks shows the magnitude of these events before becoming the 16th president in 1860 and winning re-election in 1864.

1832 – Lost Job and Defeated in State Legislature.
1833 – Failed in Business
1835 – Sweetheart Died
1836 – Had a Nervous Breakdown
1838 – Defeated for Speaker
1843 – Defeated fro Nomination for Congress
1848 – Lost Re-election for Congress
1849 – Rejected for Land Officer
1850 – Son Edward Died
1854 – Defeated for U.S. Senate
1856 – Defeated for Nomination for Vice President
1858 – Again Defeated for U.S. Senate
