Hello Everyone:

First Lady Michelle Obama’s book“American Grown: The Story of the White House Kitchen Garden and Gardens Across America,”   The book includes a history of White House vegetable gardens reaching back to Eleanor Roosevelt’s Victory Garden and also takes a look at gardens across the country.

Mrs. Obama is set to appear Tuesday May 29th on ABC’s “Good Morning America” and “The View,” and Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart.”   She’ll also tape an interview for “LIVE! with Kelly” while in New York on Wednesday, May 30th and an appearance on the “Rachael Ray Show” is set to air Thursday, May 31st.

“All author proceeds will go to the National Park Foundation, the official charity of America’s national parks,” said the First Lady’s Office. “Funds will be used for programs that promote gardening and healthy eating and give young people the opportunity to experience the outdoors and lead more active lives, as well as for the continued care of the White House Kitchen Garden.”

Ahead of the May 29th release date for First Lady Michelle Obama’s new book  American Grown, Crown Publishing has released a 44-second promo video;  “click on”  following link.

Mrs. Obama is featured discussing her first outing as an author.  The book includes personal stories about Mrs. Obama’s experience with her 1,500 square-foot White House Kitchen Garden on the South Lawn, as well as stories about other US gardens, gardening tips, and recipes.

“In this book, I share my experiences starting a garden at the White House, and I offer tips on how to start your own garden, whether in a few pots on your windowsill, or out in your backyard,” Mrs. Obama says.

“You’ll also hear the stories of people in every corner of our country, who are using gardens to feed their families and communities, to educate our children and to build a healthier future for the next generation. I hope that you’ll be as inspired by these stories as I was.”
First Lady Michelle Obama hosted a luncheon for G8 Summit
leader’s spouses after touring the mansion and the White
House Kitchen Garden.
This special luncheon was prepared with Kitchen Garden and locally sourced produce by guest Chef Jose Andres with White House staff.
“…and the winning Jose Andres Salad is…”.
In my post “Tale of Two Tomatoes” last week.  The most popular Jose Andres salad was Jose’s Classic Tomato & Bread Salad Extremadura.  Go To:  Tale of Two Tomatoes for the two Jose Andres salad recipes.
A copy of American Grown has been shipped to one of my Blog readers randomly chosen after submitting her salad preference..
Have a Terrific Week!
